How this page is funded

No link on this page is an affiliate link. We are in the programme below, so we could earn a commission elsewhere on this site — but not from anything on this page. We recommend free tools where they are the better answer, including ones that earn us nothing.

What you are doing now

A notification email arrives. You open it, open the spreadsheet in another tab, then copy the name, the email, the phone number and the message across one field at a time. You type today's date yourself. Then you mark the email read so you don't do it twice.

How often: Every submission — for most small businesses that is 2 to 30 times a week.

What you want instead

A new row appears in the sheet within seconds of someone submitting the form, with a timestamp, and nothing is ever re-typed or missed.

The free option first

If your form is a Google Form, it already writes to a Google Sheet natively, for free, with no automation tool at all. Most people reading this page do not need to buy anything. Start there.

Who should not do this

Anyone getting fewer than about five submissions a week. At that volume the automation takes longer to build and maintain than the typing it replaces, and it introduces a failure mode you did not previously have.

Before you build anything for this, the Automation Decision Sheet works out whether it is worth automating at all. It is free, needs no email address, and often concludes that it is not.
