Comparison

Manual email blasts vs. Zoho Campaigns’ automated workflows

We have not sent a campaign through Zoho Campaigns ourselves. This page compares what sending updates to an email list by hand actually involves against what Zoho Campaigns’ own documentation says its free tier and its automated workflows remove — with the free options named first, because below a certain point they are a genuinely fine answer.

How this page is funded

No link on this page is an affiliate link, and AXORD earns nothing from anything recommended here. We may use affiliate links in future; when a link is an affiliate link it will be clearly disclosed on the page that carries it. How we are funded.

What we actually did here

We read Zoho Campaigns’ own pricing and plan-comparison pages, cited and dated below. We have not built a workflow, configured an autoresponder, or sent a real contact anything through this software. Where that matters, this page says so rather than reviewing it anyway.

Who this is for

Anyone who emails updates to a list of contacts and currently does it by BCC or one email at a time — the exact task described on the manual-email-list-updates problem page.

1. The free options first

A plain BCC email or a Gmail group costs nothing and is a completely reasonable way to send an occasional update to a short list. Zoho Campaigns’ own Forever Free plan costs nothing too, and covers considerably more volume.

DocumentedZoho Campaigns’ Forever Free plan is documented as covering up to 2,000 contacts and 6,000 emails a month, at no cost and with no time limit. (Zoho Campaigns, accessed 2026-09-27)

We earn nothing from this section

If BCC or the free plan already solves your problem, that is a genuinely better outcome for you than anything below. How we are funded.

2. Where the free options run out

The failure mode isn’t the cost of sending — it’s that a plain BCC or the free plan gives a new contact nothing automatically. There is no welcome message, no different follow-up for someone who clicked versus someone who didn’t, and no automatic handling of bounces or unsubscribes. That gap doesn’t shrink as your list grows — it gets more noticeable.

DocumentedZoho’s own plan-comparison page documents the Forever Free plan as not including automated workflows or advanced segmentation — so a new subscriber gets nothing automatically on that tier regardless of list size. (Zoho Campaigns, accessed 2026-09-27)

3. What Zoho Campaigns documents as automatable

The following is what Zoho states about its own product, cited from its pricing and comparison pages. None of it is something we have run ourselves.

DocumentedThe Standard tier is documented as adding drag-and-drop workflow automation and contact segmentation — letting a new subscriber trigger an automatic sequence rather than waiting for the next manual send. (Zoho Campaigns, accessed 2026-09-27)

DocumentedThe Professional tier is documented as adding advanced triggers, contact scoring and ecommerce-specific automation — including abandoned-cart and purchase-follow-up workflows — beyond what Standard includes. (Zoho Campaigns, accessed 2026-09-27)

⚠ We could not verify thisWhat we could not verify: the exact starting price for the Standard or Professional tiers (Zoho prices by contact-count slab and its own pages did not surface a flat monthly figure without selecting a country and list size live), how reliably a workflow actually fires in practice, or what happens to deliverability at real send volume. We have not run it, so we do not claim an answer either way.

When paying starts to make sense

Worth considering when
  • You send often enough that a manual compose-and-send is a real, repeated task.
  • New contacts should get an automatic welcome message, not nothing until the next blast.
  • You want different follow-up behaviour for someone who clicked versus someone who didn’t.
Hold off when
  • It is an occasional update to a short list you already manage fine by BCC.
  • You have not confirmed the actual price at your contact count.
  • You have not tried the free plan’s own limits first — 2,000 contacts is a lot of room.

Limitations and failure cases

  • We have not built a workflow, configured an autoresponder, or sent a real contact anything through Zoho Campaigns. Every Zoho Campaigns claim here is from its own documentation, not our measurement.
  • Pricing and plan tiers change; the figures above carry the date we checked them and should be re-verified against Zoho's own pricing page before you buy.
  • We could not confirm an exact starting price for the Standard or Professional tiers at a small contact count.
